This is a Swedish company which produces cars and trucks, and also power machines for different usage. Besides, the company is quite successful in agriculture, forestry business and domestic appliances production.

The first Volvo car was named Jacob and was done by the founders of the company. In 1927 the car production plant was set up to produce Volvo cars. The name of the company originated from the Latin verb "to roll" first person singular. The company manufactured safe cars, but the war didn't let the company enter the European market. Just after the war thanks to some great promotion campaigns, Volvo cars became famous not only in Europe, but in the USA. In Sweden Volvo remained the bestselling brand. For example Volvo PV44 was the market leader up to 1953. And the next famous models PV 444 and PV 544 were based on the first car model.

Volvo has always paid a lot of attention to safety of passengers. The company sets the standards of safe cars using some unique techniques.

Since 1999 Volvo cars division has been the part Ford Motor Company.
